The new Europeana Strategy 2020 puts great emphasis on sharing best practice and developing digital tools that empower the digital transformation of Europe’s cultural heritage institutions. It talks about innovation and harnessing state-of-the-art tech, and it calls for Europeana’s collections website to harness its full potential as ‘a powerful platform for storytelling’.

The purpose of this Task Force is to produce research and recommendations based on examples of interesting, engaging and effective storytelling practices found around the web - particularly those that incorporate cultural heritage - with the intention of feeding into the development of the Europeana collections website as a ‘powerful platform for storytelling’.

Outcomes

  • A list of inspiring digital storytelling practices from around the web.
  • An evaluation of what makes them engaging.
  • Recommendations for the types of practice that could be developed for Europeana in line with the Collections’ team strategy and contribute to editorial KPIs.

As coordinated by the Europeana Communicators community, the results and recommendations can be disseminated through official community channels and possibilities of dissemination by members' own networks and channels investigated. A conference paper could be submitted for inclusion in the Europeana 2021 conference, and possibly an introductory session at Europeana 2020. Other external conferences can be investigated.
