In a major step towards greater open access in France, Paris Musées is releasing its digital collections into the public domain with a CC0 waiver. Europeana's Douglas McCarthy spoke with Philippe Rivière, Head of Communication and Digital at Paris Musées, to find out more.
Gallica, the digital library of the national library of France (Bibliothèque nationale de France – BnF) and its partners, is turning 20. As part of its many birthday celebrations, new services - such as Gallica Studio - are being released.
The Europeana Research Grants Programme was launched for the first time in 2016 and proved hugely popular. Digital humanities researchers applied with projects that addressed research questions by using Europeana data. The high volume of proposals proved just how important it is to make heritage data available. And the wide variety of ideas showed the depth of potential in Europeana Collections material.
The Carolingian Manuscripts owned by the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) form one of the richest collections in the world. The almost 479 manuscripts from the 8th-10th centuries were made in many different centers throughout the realm.
Cartographic material, maps and city views. The Historical Library offers an outstanding collection of Flemish, Dutch, Italian and French maps from the fifteenth to nineteenth centuries belonging to valuable editions enriched with colored maps and rich bindings with gold decorations.
