Europeana Academy is a training programme for professionals working with, in and around cultural heritage. It aims to provide participants with a comprehensive and enriching learning experience, and to support professionals to develop new skills and knowledge.

The Academy combines two aspects. The first is a digital training platform through which you can follow online, self-paced training on topics from copyright in cultural heritage collections, to using Europeana’s APIs, to IIIF, to data statistics and aggregation. The second is live, instructor-led training sessions which offer you the chance to follow these courses in real time with the support of an expert instructor.

Read on to discover how you can sign up today!

Instructor-led training

Throughout the year, the Europeana Academy runs live training courses with expert trainers from across the Europeana Initiative. These courses are lively and engaging, requiring active participation and interaction with trainers. Courses can consist of one or several sessions, and you will receive a certificate when you attend all of the sessions.

Spaces on these courses are limited but as the courses run several times a year, you can choose to take part in whichever period suits you best!

Discover and register for the instructor-led training in 2025.

Self-paced courses

Combined with the opportunity to learn directly from trainers in a live environment, Europeana Academy offers self-paced courses which you can take online through our new training platform. These courses cover the same topics as the instructor-led-training but you can work through them in a time and place that suits you best.

Anyone can sign up and follow these courses - go to our Training Platform to set up your account and start learning! The platform is under development, and more courses will be added over time.

Learn, discover, grow

The feedback from the Academy’s pilot programme (launched exclusively for Europeana Network Association Members in 2024) was very positive, and we are excited to now make it available to wider audiences!

One pilot participant commented that the course they followed, ‘Absolutely boosted the motivation to write a story about an idea I had - about the digital objects in Europeana collection… and link it to my thesis.’

Others shared that the courses had motivated them to share knowledge themselves, and were a useful basis for doing so: ‘I will share this information with coworkers so that we can put more content in Europeana and leverage the visibility of that content.’
