In Italy, mostly in South Italy where I live, Europeana activities are not well-known, because local competence centers or hubs of expertise of the data space and Open Data for cultural heritage lack. Having quite 20 years of research and training activities in the fields of cultural heritage digitisation, I feel I can improve regional digital culture by actively working as a council member by designing strategies for fostering the approach and the interaction of people with Europeana.
I am Assistant Professor at DIRIUM of the UNIBA. I research and teach in the fields of Library and information sciences, Digitization of heritage, Digital Humanities. I am the Director of the Interdepartmental Research Center "Digital Heritage" - CEDITH of UNIBA. I have about 100 scientific peer-reviewed publications in the LIS and DH fields. From 1999 to 2004 I was Chief Librarian at UNIBA in charge of management and digitization of historical book collections. I am member of the Executive Committee of the European Association for Digital Humanities (EADH) and of the Board of the Associazione di Informatica Umanistica e Cultura Digitale (AIUCD). I am also member of ICOM. I am the founder and CEO of the university spin-off Digitalizzazione di Archivi, BIblioteche e MUSei - D.A.BI.MUS. S.r.l., which is specialized in the digitization of heritage and the creation of innovative digital solutions.
