Today, thanks to the development of the Europeana Publishing Framework, it’s possible to measure the quality of any record in Europeana Collections. Here’s an insight into just some of the activities that have helped us to reach this point.
Supporting cultural heritage institutions to improve the quality, openness and usefulness of their digital collections is vital. To this end, quality guidelines related to metadata have been added to the Europeana Publishing Framework. In this Pro News series, we look at what this standard for metadata means in practice, why it’s important and how we have worked with our partners to reach this milestone.
This February, the Access to Biological Collections Data (ABCD) Schema released ABCD 3.0. Mareike Petersen from the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin explains more about the motivations for the expansion, what’s changed, how it’s been received by the community and what’s next for this two-decade old Schema describing our natural heritage.

We believe that a stronger link between the cultural and education sectors is both vital and mutually beneficial. That’s why, over the last year or so, we (the Europeana Foundation’s Reuse team) have been asking questions to our educational audiences and listening carefully to their answers.
The information we have gleaned will help data providers to better understand and cater to the needs of teachers and students by providing high-quality cultural data in relevant formats and on relevant topics. This will translate into more happy educators and more inspiring examples of reuse of their collections in educational settings of all types.
