Animate your International Women’s Day with stickers and GIFs workshop

Every year, the Europeana Initiative and partners contribute to Women’s History Month by sharing stories about women from history, as well as stories about how projects and cultural heritage institutions are showcasing women’s history. This year is no exception. Here are some of the things you can look forward to this Women’s History Month.

Join our workshop

First of all, on 8 March, International Women’s Day, you can join the Europeana Foundation's online GIF-making workshop!

Women's accomplishments and contributions to society are often overlooked and it can be challenging to find material related to women's history in cultural heritage collections. In this workshop, you'll learn how to search through Europeana.eu's cultural heritage collections to find material about women’s history. Then we'll explore simple techniques so you can create animated stickers and GIFs using free online tools. It’s open to all and no experience is necessary!

Explore our websites

On Europeana Pro, throughout Women’s History Month, we will be talking to people involved in showcasing women’s contributions to football, the music industry and the maritime industry. Discover some of the ways that institutions and individuals are working to acknowledge, surface and highlight women’s history in their own collections and activities on Europeana Pro.

Over on Europeana.eu you will be able to read new editorials about a range of figures from history, with topics ranging from the woman who invented the ice-cream cone, to female pioneers in film, photography, the environment and more, as well as a look at the history of Women’s History Month itself! Explore all our women’s history and heritage stories on Europeana.eu

Follow our social media

We’d love you to follow, retweet and share our editorials and news posts throughout the month - we will be sharing them on X, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

And we’re looking forward to seeing other organisations take over our Instagram account to showcase their own collections and activities related to Women’s History Month. Look out for Istanbul Gender Museum, Mary Anning Rocks, Women’s History Museum Zambia, Hunt Museum and more.

Get involved

We want to help cultural heritage institutions to get involved in Women's History Month. Share inspirational stories from your own collections and let us know about your plans so we can explore ways to support them.

  • Do your collections tell the story of an inspirational woman from history? Write an editorial piece for the Europeana website, or share it with us so that we can explore how to feature it.

  • Does your institution plan to celebrate Women’s History Month? We can support your activities on social media or Europeana Pro News.

  • Does your institution have collections and content around women’s history? Promote relevant images, objects and blogs on social media. Use #WomensHistoryMonth and tag us when you do.

If any of these sound good to you, then get in touch with editorial@europeana.eu.
