Martina Bagnoli is the chair of the Supervisory Board of the Europeana Foundation and a
member of the Board of Directors of EIT Culture and Creativity. She has been a curator at the
Walters Art Museum in Baltimore and served as Director of the Gallerie Estensi in Modena and
of the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo. Born and raised in Italy, she is an art historian by
training. She completed her university studies abroad, first at the University of Cambridge,
where she earned her degree, and later at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where she
received her doctorate. She has authored numerous books and articles on the subjects of
medieval art history, museums and library studies and has curated exhibitions in Italy and
abroad. She has taught at The Johns Hopkins University, is part of the Faculty of the Fondazione
Scuola dei Beni e delle Attività Culturali, and serves on the scientific committee of MEIS – the
National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah. She has written for Gazzetta di Modena,
L’Eco di Bergamo, Domani, and Appunti, with which she collaborates actively. In December
2024, she was awarded the honor of Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
