Two months since the launch of the AI4Culture Platform, we are already upgrading it with a new category of dynamic resources: ‘Recipes’.

Recipes are curated guides that provide step-by-step instructions on how to use and combine different features of AI tools and other resources to solve complex tasks. Recipes may describe, for example, how visual analysis or automatic translation tools can be used for enrichment purposes in combination with metadata management platforms; or how automatic subtitling and optical character recognition tools can be used together with tools that facilitate validation and post-editing of the automatically produced results. Currently, there are five recipes on the AI4Culture platform that guide the user - be they a cultural heritage professional, aggregator, researcher or developer - through different tasks of high interest to the cultural heritage community. Access the recipes.

The solution to most technical challenges encountered by cultural heritage institutions, from multilingual transcription and subtitles generation to metadata enrichment and image analysis, requires a combination of tools, which can interact with each other and established platforms used by institutions to form a comprehensive workflow. These workflows, as represented by the AI4Culture recipes, demonstrate how AI tools and their parts, that offer different functionalities, can interoperate with each other in a modular way to serve real-world use cases and needs of cultural heritage organisations. This is why we decided to write down the recipes, as they can guide cultural heritage professionals through a complex process in a structured and easily understandable way. The instructions found in the step-by-step guides are supported by videos, screenshots, and supplemental material to make becoming AI literate a piece of cake.

Recipes can always generate other variations as AI tools and datasets are being used in various contexts, and we warmly welcome suggestions on how to improve and diversify the content of the recipes - and the AI4Culture platform. Registered users of the platform can document and publish their own recipes, demonstrating how AI tools can be used in practice to solve real-world problems.

Register for the AI4Culture platform and follow the instructions to contribute with an AI tool, dataset, upskilling resource or recipe.
