British Wildlife Recordings

The British Library presents wildlife and environmental sound recordings and their associated documentation from the Library’s extensive collections of unique sound recordings which come from all over the world.

The selection, freely available online comprises Kenyan bird recordings (from the most comprehensive personal archive of wildlife sounds from East Africa); Amphibians (comprehensive collection of vocalisations from around the world); British wildlife recordings (sound recordings of wildlife from around Britain); Early wildlife recordings (pioneering wildlife sound recordings from the first half of the twentieth century); Listen to nature (birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and insects from all over the world); Soundscapes (industrial sounds, urban and natural soundscapes, and wildlife sounds from around the globe); Water (field recordings of various bodies of water from around the world) and Weather (field recordings of meteorological phenomena). Users can search and browse the entire collection with the Sound and Moving Image Catalogue.
