Transcription and tribulations: digital volunteering

This session from Europeana 2021 explores how cultural heritage institutions can involve volunteers in digital projects.

Through the Auld Reekie Retold project, throughout the pandemic, Museums and Galleries Edinburgh (M&GE) have been working with a team of volunteers to transcribe their collections registers. Since February 2021 their 26 volunteers have completed over 1,000 pages of transcription, helping the organisation address a documentation backlog as well as keep volunteers engaged, and providing them with a chance to develop their digital skills.

Watch this presentation to find out more about the project, how it worked and how your institution could approach digital volunteering.
