The idea was to get Swedes to photograph historical buildings, monuments and sculptures in their country, thus helping in their digitisation. As a result, Swedish culture would be accessible online worldwide and saved for future generations.

Europeana's 20 millionth digital artifact, Caravaggio's painting of David with the Head of Goliath, has just been contributed by the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. The dataset was made available via Kulturpool, the Austrian aggregator. Kulturpool, developed and operated by uma and based on the uma Melvil® semantic web engine, is a portal for aggregated semantic search with Web 2.0 elements. uma Melvil, the innovation leader in semantic web technology, which helped to frame the foundation of Kulturpool when it launched in 2008, aggregates the metadata for Europeana.
