WP1 Coordination and Management
This work package will ensure the overall management of the ASSETS Best Practice network. Rules for the quality control of all project activities will be defined and adopted. Progress of the work will be monitored against the milestones and the objectives. All the activities carried out in this work package will be conducted according to the management structure of the Consortium, WP1.0 will be the instrument that will guarantee a correct and efficient development of the project activities.

WP1.1 Networking Dissemination and Exploitation
The central objective of this work package is to guarantee a wide impact of the project. The work package will plan and develop all networking, dissemination and exploitation activities. Therefore the main goal of this work package is: to foster the future evolution and valorization of the ASSETS services; to aggregate a critical mass around the project in order to build consensus and interest; to focus on the realization of a business model in order to assess the exploitation perspectives of the ASSETS services.

WP2 Technical Coordination and Interoperability
The goal of this work package is to develop the overall architecture and specifications of The ASSETS services, ensuring the seamless integration of ASSETS components within the Europeana R&D Sandbox and portal during the lifetime of the project. The central objectives of this work package are: 1)Analysis and continued monitoring of state-of-the-art in Europeana and related projects. 2)Definition of the overall design of the ASSETS system. 3)Specification of service interfaces and interaction

WP2.1 Ingestion
The objective of this work package is to implement a service for metadata ingestion that covers all phases of the process and keeps track of the work done, thus allowing to obtain a full account of the ingested metadata. The ASSETS Ingestion service consists of the following services: 1) Metadata cleaning. 2)Knowledge extraction: Mappingā€based and inference-based extraction. 3)Metadata Classification. This service will add further knowledge to the ingested metadata by relating them to a taxonomy of semantic categories.

WP2.2 Scalable metadata- and similarity-based indexing and retrieval
The objective of this work package is to create a new type of search service for European Digital Libraries, providing an efficient and effective service. The work package will develop two different types of search; 1) Metadata-based search for digital libraries that only hold object's descriptions and not the content 2) Similarity-based search for digital libraries with multimedia content or with at least the possibility of indexing multimedia content.

WP2.3 Preparing the ground for digital preservation
This work package will develop digital preservation services for the content providers of Europeana. Three specific services will be developed: the Risk Management service, the Normalization service and the Notification service.

WP2.4 Service integration testing and deployment
This work package will combine all ASSET services under one common platform, which will serve as a basis for their interoperability. The interfaces between the platform and the services, as well as between the platform and the content providers will be defined and implemented within this work package. The same services will also be put under the sand boxes of the Europeana Labs for technical testing against the Europeana data sets.

WP2.5 Browsing and visual interfaces
The main objective of this work package is to provide a set of services for efficient search, browsing, navigation and visualization of media content.

WP3 Content provision and adaptation
The purpose of this work package is to provide a relevant and heterogeneous set of contents that will demonstrate the ability of the ASSETs services to effectively clean, extract knowledge from and classify the provided metadata, thereby improving the usability of Europeana in searching and browsing. Additionally, another objective is to increase the number of high quality contents available through digital libraries.

WP3.1 Service user evaluation and assessment
The objective of this work package is to validate the consolidated services by testing them on real users and to ensure that the services comply with the Europeana requirements in order to ensure deployment. This work package needs to cover 2 types of users: machine and end users.

WP3.2 Community services
The objective of this work package is to develop services addressing the needs of digital library communities. This work package also addresses single users, as communities with only one member. The work package will focus on content creation by re-use, taxonomy-based notification and personalization services.
